Suman Bose, Ph.D

PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR

Dr. Suman Bose is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology and Biomedical Engineering with a joint appointment in the Department of Immunology at the Mayo Clinic. Suman received his bachelor's in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in India. Later, he worked with Dr. Rohit Karnik at MIT, where he earned his S.M. and Ph.D. from the Department of Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Medical Science. He did his postdoctoral training with Dr. Robert Langer and Dr. Daniel Anderson at MIT and Harvard Medical School, where he focused on developing implants for cell-based therapies. Suman started his independent laboratory in April 2023 at Mayo Clinic Scottsdale Campus.

Postdoctoral Fellow

Sudip Chakraborty, Ph.D.

Sudip grew up in India and developed a fascination with life at the cellular and molecular level while in high school. After obtaining an M.S (by research) degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, he moved to Sydney, Australia to pursue his PhD. During his PhD, he investigated multiple strategies for imparting antibacterial properties to the surfaces of implantable biomedical materials. Sudip is currently a postdoctoral fellow working with Dr. Suman Bose at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. Outside work, Sudip enjoys long and interesting conversations, outdoor activities, working out, and exploring new places to eat.

Pamela Allison Manco Urbina, Ph.D.

Postdoctoral Fellow

Pamela is originally from Peru, but she moved to Spain at age 14. There she completed her bachelor’s and master’s degree. She has always been passionate about research, understanding the mechanism underlying disease, with especial focus on tropical diseases. She moved to Italy to pursue a PhD in organic electronics as an ITN Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellow, where she developed biosensors for the label-free detection of aging biomarkers. As part of this European program, she had the opportunity to collaborate with different laboratories around Europe, spending five months at the Austrian Institute of Technology, among others. Outside the lab, Pamela likes exploring new outdoor activities, like sailing, skiing, etc., but her other passion is dancing, mainly Latin American dances.

Adelmo Lopez, M.S.

Email: lopez.adelmo@mayo.edu

Adelmo Lopez grew up in San Diego, California, and pursued a focus on Medical Devices and Tissue Engineering, earning a Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering from the University of California, Riverside (UCR), and a Master of Science in Bioengineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). At UCR, he designed a smart patch designed to heal diabetic ulcers and other chronic wounds in patients, demonstrating his innovative approach to medical challenges. At UCLA, he was part of Dr. Song Li's lab, where he worked on creating an artificial nerve and contributed to cancer research at UCLA Health through an advanced imaging modality. Adelmo now brings his expertise to the Mayo Clinic in Arizona, where he is part of Dr. Suman Bose's lab. Outside of his professional endeavors, he maintains his fitness through regular workouts, enjoys reading philosophy books, and is an avid soccer fan.

Research Technologist

Aparna Krishnan, B.S.

GREP Student

Aparna grew up in Scottsdale, AZ and conducted bioinformatics research on proteogenomics data under Dr. Patrick Pirrotte at the Translational Genomics Research Institute in Phoenix, AZ. She then earned her Bachelor's degree in Biology and Applied Statistics from Columbia University in 2024. At Columbia University Irving Medical Center, she leveraged network- and machine learning-based tools to study suppressive immune cells that are radioresistant under Dr. Andrea Califano, Dr. Catherine Spina, and Dr. Aleksandar Obradovic. Outside of the lab, Aparna enjoys dancing Bharatanatyam, trying new sports, and watching the Phoenix Suns win.
